Holidays Around the World Immigrant Family Event

Holidays Around the World Immigrant Family Event
Matanzas High School

Matanzas High School recently hosted a Holidays Around the World Celebration, a heartwarming celebration that brought together students, families, and staff to honor diverse cultural traditions. Organized by ESOL Resource Teacher, Mrs. Lagocki, the event provided a space for immigrant families to share their holiday customs, enjoy cultural performances, and connect with the school community.

The evening began with a cultural display walk, where families explored student exhibits showcasing traditional clothing, holiday artifacts, and meaningful family traditions. This was followed by an ESOL Language Workshop for parents, aimed at helping families navigate the educational system and find language-learning resources. Parents also participated in a goal-setting session, sharing their aspirations for their children's academic and community success.

One of the highlights of the event was the Traditional Clothing Parade, where students proudly represented their heritage by wearing attire from their home countries.   Attendees were also treated to dance performances, including Latin and Ukrainian dances, which showcased the rich cultural diversity within our school.

The event concluded with a holiday potluck, where families shared favorite dishes from their respective cultures, fostering connections through food and storytelling. The celebration not only highlighted the beauty of multicultural traditions but also strengthened the bond between students, families, and educators.

Thank you to our student volunteers, performers, and families for making this event such a memorable and meaningful experience. Your participation and shared traditions help make Matanzas High School a truly inclusive and welcoming place for all.
