Matanzas High School Lockdown - Update

This morning at 11:19 am, our emergency alert alarm sound was briefly triggered during maintenance on our intercom system. Out of an abundance of caution, we asked the school to lockdown while we investigated the source of the alarm sound. The Flagler Sheriff's Office responded and swept our building to ensure that the building was secure. We were able to determine that the alarm sound went off in error during maintenance on our system. There was no threat or emergency on our campus, this was a false alarm. 

We have released the lockdown and resumed normal school operations. We are modifying the lunch schedule for today so that all students are able to have enough time to eat lunch. Again, there is no emergency here at Matanzas High School, we have resumed normal school operations. 

I am proud of our teachers, staff and students for their cooperation, thank you parents for your support of Matanzas High School, and deeply grateful to the Flagler Sheriff's Office for their quick response in ensuring our campus is safe. Please know that your child's safety will ALWAYS be my first priority.

At 11:17 a.m. today, an emergency indicator came on at Matanzas High School. School administration immediately put the school on lockdown.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrived and began investigating. Since then, investigators have cleared the campus, and there was no active situation at Matanzas High School.

We appreciate our parents’ concern and patience as this investigation was being conducted. Students will return to class and classes are resuming under a normal bell schedule.
