Matanzas High School's Hospitality & Tourism program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the dynamic and rewarding world of hospitality and tourism. This program offers a hands-on, project-based learning experience that prepares students for a variety of exciting career paths.

What will your child learn? Students will explore the diverse facets of the hospitality and tourism industry, including lodging, food and beverage, event planning, and travel and tourism. They will develop essential skills such as customer service, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Our curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including industry history, marketing, operations, and management.

Career Opportunities: The hospitality and tourism industry offers a vast array of career options. Our program prepares students for roles in hotels, restaurants, event planning companies, theme parks, cruise lines, sporting entertainment and many more. Potential career paths include hotel management, event coordinator, restaurant manager, travel agent, and entrepreneurship.

Industry Certifications and Real-World Experience: To enhance students’ career readiness, we incorporate industry-recognized certifications into our program. Students will have the opportunity to earn certifications in Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Social Media Marketing and SafeServ Manager providing them with valuable credentials for future employment.

Real-world experience is a cornerstone of our program. Students will embark on field trips to local tourism businesses, such as the Daytona Beach Airport, Universal Studios, Orange County Convention Center, local hotels and other attractions, to observe industry operations firsthand. These visits offer invaluable insights into the inner workings of the industry.

Project-Based Learning: We believe in learning by doing. Our program incorporates a variety of engaging projects, such as creating a food truck concept, designing a theme park, planning and executing events, and assisting with school functions such as concerts and sporting events. Students will also have the opportunity to run their own hotel, restaurant, or sporting arena through a comprehensive simulation program. These projects allow students to apply their knowledge in practical settings and develop essential skills for the workplace.

By participating in our Hospitality & Tourism program, your child will gain a strong foundation in the industry, develop valuable skills, and be well-prepared for a successful career.
