Each month, MHS highlights one of Florida's Resiliency Education traits with our students. This month's focus is HONESTY: telling the truth.
October’s resiliency focus is Honesty—telling the truth. For high school students, honesty shows up in everyday choices: doing their own work, admitting mistakes, keeping promises, and speaking truthfully with kindness and respect. These choices build trust and a reputation that matters long after graduation.
These lessons grow stronger when they continue at home. The included parent resource offers simple ways to discuss integrity, owning mistakes, and how honesty shapes relationships, future opportunities, and success in the workplace.
Want to take an even more active role? Parents, family members, and community members can also serve as Resiliency Coaches, helping Florida students build the skills and character traits that prepare them for school, work, and life.
Learn more about becoming a Resiliency Coach:
Honesty starts with choosing to tell the truth, even when it’s difficult, and building trust through our words and actions.
Make Good Choices. Hold Yourself Accountable. Strive for Excellence.

Kiwanis / MHS Senior of the Month
|
Amara’s parents joined us for a surprise visit to her Probability and Statistics honors class, where members of the MHS admin team presented her with a certificate, a Pirate of Distinction lanyard, and exclusive use of the Senior of the Month parking space!
With straight A’s throughout high school, an earned AICE diploma, and leadership roles as AICE Club President and SGA Vice President, Amara sets an outstanding example. She also balances competitive gymnastics, weightlifting, NHS involvement, and community service, including helping children with special needs experience surfing through Surf Quest.
Through it all, Amara takes pride in maintaining a positive attitude and finding reasons to smile, even on challenging days.
Thank you, Amara, for your leadership, service, and dedication. We’re proud to call you a Pirate!

Nominated by their teachers for modeling Citizenship, these Pirates demonstrated what it means to help others and contribute to our school and community. Each student received a certificate featuring their teacher’s own words of recognition.
Coach Manhart joined us to celebrate her son, Dempsey, receiving his award and also to personally present a certificate to the student she nominated!
Congratulations to Daniel S., Madelyn K., Alyssa R., Kaylee K., Dempsey M., and Marcello D.!
We also honored Mrs. Amanda Cypert as our Resiliency Faculty/Staff Member of the Month. A Navy veteran and MHS Key Club sponsor, she exemplifies Citizenship through her service to our country and her leadership in student community service.
Thank you to our students for setting the example and to our Pirate educators for recognizing and nominating them. You make Matanzas stronger!

Stepping away from the screens to bring digital concepts to life! Our Digital Media 1 students traded their Macbooks for Mod Podge, scissors, and paper to master Photoshop’s layer masks in full analog style.
To understand how masking works non-destructively, students first built a colorful base layer of "pixels" by gluing overlapping paper scraps onto a background. Next, they designed custom silhouettes on black paper and cut out stencil openings, directly mirroring Photoshop's "black hides, white reveals" masking principle. Finally, they layered the black paper over their collage base to create striking physical composites.
Bridging the gap between hands-on art and software concepts gives our students a deeper understanding before jumping back behind the monitor!
